The main goals of the Conflict LensTM training are the following:
- To measure conflicts that have actually happened. To examine conflict scientifically, with an open mind, without assuming that a person has a “conflict resolution style.” You may indeed have a style in handling conflict, but the Lens does not make this assumption.
- To spark a rich conversation about conflict resolution. The instrument is called the “Lens” because it provides an objective view of conflict. When people view it objectively and have a framework for thinking about conflict, the inevitable result is that they begin to think and talk about conflict in ways they usually haven’t in the past.
- To help people become more aware of their choices and tendencies in managing conflict. By stepping back and examining conflict in this way, people begin to see their options as well as their tendencies in managing conflict.
- To provide groups with solid data for understanding their conflicts and current strategies for handling them. Because the Lens comes with a group report, it gives groups solid data for better understanding their conflicts as a whole. Again, the process of objectively examining conflicts helps to spark a constructive and much-needed conversation about the group’s conflicts and how they would like to handle conflicts in the future.
